Melting

We can define ourselves in many ways. Some things are vague, and some things are definite.
If you asked me if I was a country girl or a city girl, I would have a hard time answering. I like both. I feel a little bit of each place in my soul.
But, if you were to ask me which season I like best, I wouldn't bat an eye or give it a second thought. I like summer. I am summer.
It's hot here today (currently 92 degrees). I'm not melting from the heat, but I am melting. I think I feel like Walt Disney might, (if the rumors about him are true), if he were frozen, and then thawed, and then brought back to life.
As I type this, I am barefoot, my hair is up, and my skin is sweating from absolutely no effort on my part, and I feel blissful. I feel completely, 100%, locked into 'me'. This I can tell you without question.
I took this photo yesterday at our town's Memorial Day Parade, and I.love.it. I don't know who the little boy is though, and I don't really like posting photos of people without their permission (especially kiddos), so I frescoed it up in Photobucket's effects. Do you think that's acceptable?
I know, by calendar definiton, it's not officially summer yet, but Memorial Day weekend is kind of like the "unofficial" start, don't you think?
The peaches on my mom's peach tree are getting ready, too. It won't be long until we are smack-dab in the middle of summer...sweet, ripe, and juicy.
And, because of that, I can not get this song out of my head...
"Summer is where the girls go barefoot and their hearts are just as free as their toes." - Unknown

What "The Muffins" Made

I call Macy, and one of the neighbor girls, "The Muffins". (Click here to find out why.) The two of them are always up to something. I love it when their creative wheels start spinning, 'cause you never know just what they're going to cook up...a few weeks ago it was this.
I saw them from the porch this morning, with that familiar spring and purpose in their step.
"Hey, what are you guys up to?"
"We're making a Kiddie Car!"
It went something like this...
and then..."Mom, stop taking our picture."
"Mom! I said, stop!"
"MOM!!"
and then..."This isn't working."
"Let's have a picnic instead."
They made Saturday fun.
"Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." - Howard Thurman
Oprah Notes

Griffin calls this a "cram". I'm guessing that's a cross between a crab and a clam.
Every time he says it, I laugh.
What am I, eight?
These are the notes I took during Oprah Winfrey's final broadcast. When I turned on the television, and heard her say, "These are the lessons that have been the anchor of my life," (or something to that affect...), I knew I needed to grab a pen and paper. I knew it would be something big, and something I would really want to remember...
(*disclaimer - the exact time the show came on, is the exact time my kiddos got home from school, so these notes are in no way a real representation of what Oprah actually said, but, instead, what filtered through to me, amidst the chaos.)
Just show up.
Do what you are called to do. (Everyone has a calling. It's the thing that lights you up inside.)
Live from the heart of yourself.
Wherever you are, that is your platform. You have the same power to save someone.
You will receive in direct proportion to what you give.
Carry it forward. Stop wasting time. Use your light for the world.
There is a common connection of the human experience. A common thread that runs through us all.
Only you have the power over your life.
Take responsibility for the energy you bring into the space.
Newton's Law - To every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction.
Live by the Golden Rule - "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."
When you are responsible for your life...you become free.
The common thread and the source of human pain is "unworthiness".
Every single person wants validation. Every one wants to be heard. We are all asking..."Do you hear me? Do you see me? Does what I say matter to you at all?"
You are worthy because you were born, and you are here.
God is working in your life at every single turn...it's closer than your breath...and it's there for the asking.
Be still and know it.
Wait and listen.
What are the whispers in your life telling you, and do you hear them?
Be a safe harbor to others.
Connect, embrace, liberate, and love.
There are no coincidences.
And, last, but not least...Say a prayer of gratitude everyday.
That Oprah is a wise, wise woman. What are we going to do without her?...Except maybe take her final parting words to heart.
(Do you think she would laugh at "cram"?)
